But asneither Orlers nor any among the better-informed of Rembrandts biographers mentionthe fact. It seems probable that Leeuwen, who generally takes his information touchingcontemporary artists from Orlers, was in error. Neither do we believe that Rembrandtwas the pupil of J. Pynas, as has been sometimes asserted. His biographers are equallysilent on this point. Houbraken merely says that he imitated the brown manner OLD WOMAN ASLEEP. About 1635 (B. 350).
