Herpes virus particle, computer artwork. Each particle (virion) consists of a deoxyribonucleic acid (DNA) genome (purple, barely seen) surrounded by an icosahedral capsid (blue), which is itself surrounded by an envelope (purple, clear) covered in glycoprotein spikes (red).
