Envelope Company). The Washington Post Office department has record of acontract made in 1815 for mail carried from Worcester toKeene, N. H., via intermediate offices. This appears tobe the only route serving Princeton until 1825 when mailfrom Boston to Albany was received daily. In 1828 andlater there was considerable correspondence with theGeneral post office in regard to the removal of our post-master, by someone who wished the appointment. Theoffice at that time was located at the junction of all themain roads that pass through the town, probably identicalwith the present Russells corner; and kept in a brickbuilding, in which was a store and large hall for publicgatherings.
