The effort had been defeated by theunwillingness of the Vestry to give it authority by usingthe parish funds or credit to undertake the building. (The history of its actual achievement belongs to therectorship of Rev. Rockland Tyng Homans, under whoseenergetic action aided by changes in the parish and vestry,the great work was accomplished, which stands to thehonor of the rector and parish in the years 1912 and TiiK Rkw Aktiiuu Sloan.
