Frost cracks on the trunk of a Blue Passion Flower vine (Passiflora caerulea), in Winter. There, following a temperature warming in the daytime, that plant has deacclimatized of its complete winter dormancy. Then, when the temperature drops again rapidly, the vine tissue cannot reacclimatize quickly enough, its sap expands when freezing, causing cell damage and wood and bark cracks. Gélivures sur un tronc de Passiflore bleue (Passiflora caerulea) en hiver. Ici, suite à un réchauffement de la température en journée, la sève a commencé à circuler dans la plante, puis un épisode de gel marqué durant la nuit a produit l'expansion de celle-ci et a fait éclater l’écorce du tronc.
