George Washington was born on the Potomac river, in Westmore-land county, Virginia, February 22d, 1732, and died December 14, 1754 he was made Lieutenant-Colonel of the militia, and accompaniedBraddock in his expedition against Fort Duquesne in 1755. In the sameyear he was made Commander-in-Chief of the military forces of the Col-ony of Virginia, and in 1787 he was unanimously chosen president of theConvention that met to frame a Constitution. He was inaugurated firstPresident of the United States, April 30, 1789 ; and, being re-elected, heheld the office until 1797.
