In addition to the ABO system, red blood cells carry antigens belonging to various other systems of the blood group of which Rhesus (C, c, D, E, e), Kell (K, k), Duffy and Kidd. This phenotype is undertaken to determine the compatibility in case of blood transfusion. Here, the cartridge enables to make the Rhesus (C, E, c, e) and Kell (K) phenotype. On the right, cartridge of red cell antibodies : human antiglobulin test (AHG). This test, also named Coombs test, enables to research the presence of red cell antibodies (RAI). Red cell antibodies (or hemolysins) are antibodies present in certains individuals, directed again antigens of foreign red corpuscles ; they have developped following a transfusion or a pregnancy with foeto-maternal incompatibility. Their presence must be determined before a transfusion or a second pregnancy to avoid hemolytic accidents.
