The beach of Kolona in Kythnos island, one of the best of the Cyclades and a favoured anchorage for yachts and sailing boats

The two beaches of Kolona are actually formed by a thin strip of golden sand that connects Kythnos to the islet of Agios Loukas. With green - azure crystal waters on both sides, the shore is an excellent spot for swimming, although not organized- no umbrellas existing, just two large trees for providing shade-. The area is hard to be reached by vehicle, only driving a jeep since the road is pretty rough, or by taxi boat from Merihas, the port of Kythnos. There is no quay on the beach, so if you own a boat you' ll need to land on the sand. Nevertheless, well protected by most winds, Kolona is one of the best anchorages in the Cyclades, perfect for sailing boats. The beach is situated approximately 3 km to the west of Chora village and it can be reached even on foot in a couple of hours from Merihas , but only if you love hiking and of course you can stand it under the Greek sun.
