Peru children in the bleak mining town of La Oroya central Andes photo monochrome 1970
In 1922 Cerro de Pasco Mining Company built a smelter plant situated about 120 miles along the central highway from the capital of Peru, plant at the fork of the Yauli and Montaro rivers was set up to process material from all the mines in the region starting with the long established Cerro de Pasco mine about 80 miles away deeper into the town that grew up around this complex was called La Oroya and to-day has a thriving community of around 40, children find a sunny corner for their meetings.
