A terracotta tile reproducing the ancient painting of Our Lady of Maralunga, traditionally hanging at the entrance of each new house, Lerici, Italy

The story of Our Lady of Maralunga begins in 1480, when three fishermen find a picture consisting of a painted plate, in which were depicted two images of the Madonna with Child. The discovery, probably the result of a shipwreck, was seen by the local population as a sign and a wonder: providence had chosen them to receive that gift and be its guardians. They took this task very seriously, so much so that they decided to build a church. The faith and tradition of the population towards Our Lady di Maralunga and its icon are very strong and have consolidated over the centuries, so much so that every town has a reproduction of the painting in terracotta tile, and still today is made a gift to every new home. The sacred painting can still be found today, in excellent condition, in the church of San Francesco.
