The uniform tension was not strained by hawkers plyingtheir trade, nor solicitors after subscription, or begging for pub-lic enterprises. In all essentials it was a veritable home coming,—a family gathering. At the proper hour, the bagpipers struck up The MacLeansMarch, composed by William MacLean, which meant the hourof lunch was at hand. The bountiful repast was spread out ina tasteful manner under a large Marquee. Large as it was, thepeople could only gather by relays.
