Gilded Great Audience Hall of the Royal Palace, Mandalay, Myanmar


The Royal Palace originally was in Amarapura. When the capital city was moved to Mandalay, the some of the original buildings were dismantled and transported to Mandalay and rebuild there as part of the new all teak Royal Palace in 1857-59. The Royal Palace was the last royal palace of the last Burmese monarch. The monarchy ended in 1885 during the Third Anglo-Burmese war when the British entered the palace and captured the royal family.
