Richard Hooker, born April 10, 1808, grad-uated at Yale College in 1827, died December 19, 1857. JosiAH Hooker, Esq., son of Judge John and Sarah(Dwight) Hooker, was born in Springfield, Mass., April 17,1796. He entered Yale College, and graduated in for the profession of law, and was admitted to thebar in 1820. He was appointed one of the special justicesof peace in May, 1852, by Gov. George S. Boutwell, whoalso appointed at the same time Col. Harvey Chapin, theybeing the first special justices established in was often appointed by the court as referee in casesfor final adjustment. In 1838 he was a representativefrom his native town in the Legislature. He was the firstpresident of the Springfield Institution for Savings (whichwas incorporated in 1827), a trustee from 1847 to 1870,and its president for twenty-four years,
