El Gordo galaxy cluster, JWST image

James Webb Space Telescope (JWST) image of the El Gordo galaxy cluster. The cluster consists of several hundreds of galaxies that swarm around under the collective gravitational pull. It existed when the universe was half of its current age, around billion years old. The image reveals hundreds of distant and dusty objects, some of which have never been seen before at this level of detail. El Gordo is located over 7 billion light years away from Earth, in the constellation of Phoenix. Image captured by JWST's Near-Infrared Camera (NIRCam).
