Christ Church, Spitalfields, London

Christ Church Spitalfields (1714–1729), designed by Nicholas Hawksmoor, was built during the reign of George I under the Act of Parliament of 1711 (under Queen Anne) which called for the building of fifty new churches to serve the expanding population around London. The church became the first of the series that was designed by Hawksmoor, who designed a total of six of the twelve that were eventually built by the time the programme ended in 1731
