Sports stadium. Satellite image of the area around Qualcomm Stadium (centre), San Diego, California, USA. Originally built from 1965-7 for the American football team the San Diego Chargers, from 1969 to 2003 it was also home to the baseball team the San Diego Padres. The stadium was originally an open horseshoe shape, but in 1997 additional seating was added to form the shape seen here. In the same year, Qualcomm purchased the naming rights. Large car parks surround the stadium, and major roads are also seen. Housing is seen at top left. Image taken by the Ikonos satellite on 11 May 2002.
