Cancer-detecting nanoparticles. Fluorescent light micrograph of cancer cells (with cell nuclei in blue) that have been treated with antibody-conjugated nanoparticles. The antibodies (red) and the nanoparticle cores (green) have separated into different cellular compartments. Progress in cancer nanotechnology requires a better understanding of how molecular-targeted nanoparticles interact with live cells. Such knowledge may lead to improved methods of direct cancer detection as well as better nanoparticle-based treatments. This image was created in 2017, as part of research carried out at the M. D.
