Dark grey outcrop of wet Hartland Schist with fallen leaves overlooking colourful autumnal trees, Central Park South, New York

Several outcrops of 450 million year old Hartland and Manhattan Schist outcrop in Central Park. Such rocks form the solid foundations for New York's skyscrapers. The outcrops also display the effects of the Wisconsin Glaciation, which receded some 12,000 years ago.
