Jacques Villain (born 1934), French physicist, at a 'Speed Science' event organised to allow 100 young people to meet a range of eminent French scientists. Villain's research was in statistical physics, solid state physics, and surface science. He worked for most of his career at the nuclear research centre in Grenoble (CENG). Awarded the 1962 Prix Paul-Langevin, he was elected a member of the French Academy of Sciences in 2000, and is a Commander of the Ordre des Palmes Academiques.
