Soon after Ventimiglia, where the French frontier is passed, wearrive at Mentone, renowned throughout Europe for its sanitary advantages. The positionof the town is similar to that of San Remo, for the bay is enclosed by rocky heights ateach end, and sheltered at the back by the great mountains of the Maritime Alps.
