It does not fwim upon the fuiface of the water, but comes up occafionally to breathe, which it does in the fame manner as the turtle. When upon the ground it runs with much the fame degree of activity as a land tortoife. It inhabits the banks of the lakes, and is fuppofed to feed in the muddy places which furround them} but the particular kind of food on which it fubfifts is not known. Thf.
