A rapier, Wilhelm Wirsberg, Solingen, circa 1600. Narrow, double-edged blade with a lenticular cross-section and fullers on both sides running almost up to the point. There are three grooves on the ricasso, with the maker's inscription, "WILHELM WIRSTP. CH SOLINGEN" on both sides. Ricasso lightly ground on the sides. Iron bar guard hilt. Grip cover with replacement winding. The braided ferrules are presumably original. Cylindrical grooved pommel.
