One always singularly well preservedtumid Pecten ranges from these upper beds down into the variegatedseries of the Paniala bluffs. The zone is perhaps partly representativeof some of the golden oolite layers elsewhere. In some spots, but always isolated, dislocated, or generally without any overlying strata, I have observed exposures of similar dark-coloured rocks to those just described, but not always found them to contain fossils. It is uncertain whether these exposures belong to the topmost Jurassic horizon, or may be those of other black bands at no great distance downwards in the series. The ( 288 ) Wynne.
