Forceps delivery, 19th century illustration
Illustration of sections through a female pelvis during labour, or childbirth. A pair of obstetrical forceps are placed one at a time around the baby's head to aid delivery. Obstetrical forceps may be used in difficult births or when the baby is in distress and needs to be delivered quickly.
