Syntagma ("constitution") square, the central square of Nafplio town, Argolis, Peloponnese, Greece.

Here you see the central square of the old town, Syntagma or Syntagmatos ("Constitution") square. With no cars allowed inside major part of the old town, it is a perfect playground for kids, and perfect place for a cup of coffee, for grown ups. Nafplio was the first capital on the New Greek State, right after the liberation of Greece from the Ottoman Empire, in 1828. Ioannis Kapodistrias, the first Governor, ordered a civil engineer, named Stamatis Voulgaris, to plan a "European-like" town, that's why while walking around the picturesque alleys of the old town, you can see some beautiful neoclassical buildings. Thank God (for Nafplio), very soon (1834), Athens became the capital of Greece, otherwise, Nafplio wouldn't be the beautiful town that we see today, but the cement-monster Athens is.
