Native American deer hide painting of the Sand Creek Massacre (also known as the Chivington massacre, the Battle of Sand Creek or the Massacre of the Cheyenne Indians). On November 29, 1864 Colonel John Chivington leading 700 men US Cavalry and Militia massacred 133 friendly Cheyenne and Arapaho Indians under Chief Black Kettle. 105 of whom were women and children. This is a Native American historical depiction of the attack showing the Indian camp, the American Flag and a white flag; killings and mutilations of men, women and children.
