This was during theheavy sheUing, prior to Pickettscharge. During the charge, theregiment, with the brigade, moved off to support the Second Corps atthe left centre, passing through a most terrible storm of shot and shell,equivalent to charging a battery. During some of the most desperate charges of the action, one ofthe incidents that occurred, was that when the regiment moved offto the support of the Second Corps during the heavy shelling, that HCompany was left behind and it was not discovered until the regimentstacked arms that night. Captain Craig, one of the bravest and bestline officers in the regiment, who commanded the company, did notreceive the order to retire, and remained until he did.
