Triassic limestone rock crystals, polarised light micrograph. This sedimentary rock was originally laid down between 255 to 248 million years ago in the Triassic. Fossils found in this rock include marine snails and other molluscs. This rock is from the Werfen Formation. Minerals present include siderite, anchorite and barite. This specimen, prepared as a thin section, is from Zanser Alm (Weg 35A), South Tyrol, Italy. Magnification: x40 when printed at 10 centimetres across.
