The report from New York Agricultural Experiment Station on American Beauty says : " Oats long and taper pointed, average height 3 feet, culm very erect and stout, average length of panicle 9 inches, berry large, one of the most prolific varieties ; Our seed is grown from Vermont stock and averaged 80 bushels to the acre the past season, on our farm in northern Illinois, where the season was-not a good one for great yield. Under the circumstances 80 bushels to the acre was a wonderful showing. D. C. Hicks, of N. Clarendon, Vt., had over twice as much of American Beauty to the acre as he did of WELCOME, BANNER or BONANZA. In 1893 we imported at a high price bushel samples of ten varieties of oats, each variety of which was considered unusually choice. These ten varieties we planted at our Oak Glen farm, and the three varieties which showed the best results we again planted, and picked out the Giant Flag as the most meritorious of the three. In 1895 we suc- ceeded in harvesting a few hundred bushels of it, and sold it here in the store to some of our best oat growers, with the most favorable results. Dur- ing the season of 1896 we planted largely of it, and now offer it through our catalogue to all who de- sire one of the finest oats ever introduced.
