(D) But when the same data were grouped by muscle type, significant differences were found among the three muscle types: expression was highest in the slow crusher (CR) muscles, followed by the cutter (CT) and the deep-abdominal muscles (DA). (E-G) Fast MHC expression was not affected by ecdysteroid concentration in any of the three muscles. (H) But when grouped by muscle type, fast MHC expression was significantly higher in the deep-abdominal muscles than in the cutter or crusher claw muscles, and the fast cutter muscles expressed higher levels of fast MHC than the slow crusher claw muscles.
