He was born in Montgomery county, New York, in October,1819 ; in early manhood removed to Wisconsin, and practiced law manyyears in Waukeshaj was member of State legislature, 1854-5; judge ofSecond Judicial district, 1856; governor of Wisconsin, 1857-61 ; died atElmira, New York, July 25, 1872. Henry Stanbery was born in New Yrork, February 20, 1803. Fromthe age of eleven years, his home was in Ohio, where he was admitted tothe Bar in 1*24; he was attorney-general of Ohio in 1*4(>. He was onePresidents Johnsons counsel in the impeachment trial, was appointedattorney-general bv that president on Julv 23. 1866, and served untilMarch,1868.
