The means to this have beenthe exaltation of the personality and labor of the teacher above everj- material aid ; the recog-nition, on the part of the students, of demands which they should meet or withdraw from atten-dance on the school; in short, to satisfy the aspiring learner and to discourage waste of time bythe incompetent and the trifler.
