Water no longer sprays from the top of the fountain making a dome over the fountain. Vatican city ordered the largest and most beautiful marble fountains to stop in order to conserve water during the drought. The weather was incredibly hot and tourists were constantly running to the free water from some fountains in order to quench their thirst. I was one of them. Most fountains stopped, but a few small for drinking cold water were allowed, and we all appreciated it very much since it was hitting 90-92F for the last few days. You can drink Italy's water from the tap unfiltered. Its safe.
