The song has a com- pass of 12 tones, beginning on the twelfth, and descending steadily to the tonic along the tones of the second five-toned scale. It is minor in tonality, and about one-third of the intervals are minor thirds. The intonation was particularly good in this and the following song by the same sing(n'. Three renditions were recorded, wliich are uni- form throughout. See plot of this melody on p.
