This relief from Pompeii shows two slaves carrying a covered litter, which contains a figure, looks to be a woman.


Found in the house called "Gavi Rufi" in Pompeii, the Roman town that was buried in the eruption of Mt. Vesuvius in 79, it is a litter-bearer. Two slaves are carrying the covered litter, which contains a figure, looks to be a woman. The litter is square with feet and an arched canopy in which there is a large window at the side. It is borne by shafts before and behind. These shafts are hung from the slaves' shoulders using leather straps. The relief is rough and was painted with several colors. The book dates to 1895.
