Human skull and site of pituitary gland. Coloured 3D computed tomography (CT) scan of a side view of the normal skull of a 32-year-old woman. The site of the pituitary gland is known as the sella turcica (purple). It is a region within the skull just behind the eyes. It consists of the part of the sphenoid bone, and partially encloses the endocrine system's pituitary gland (hypophysis), a key gland that regulates many metabolic processes.
