An Ottoman kilij, 1st half of the 19th century Heavy, typically shaped, single-edged wootz-Damascus blade (Persian). Medallion on the obverse side with the inscription, "God the Judge of All Things" above a representation of a lion. Koranic surahs etched on the reverse side. Remnants of gilding on the back of the blade and the obverse side. Silver-plated brass quillons. Rhinoceros horn grip scales with an engraved silver grip strap.
