It will be interesting tosee how other communi-ties have provided them-selves with hospitals, andwhat kind of hospitalsthey have. Out of themany that might be cited, it maybe most helpful to take some that willserve as types. There are four typesof small hospitals: (1) where therehas been some previous experience inhospital management, and wherethere is a fund in hand to construct. One of the most important of thefirst kind is the Springfield hos-pital. It had some advantages tobegin with, for it started out withmoney in hand and it absorbed a pre-viously existing hospital. The pres- and are surrounded by a plot of overthirty acres. Occasionally we have instances ofmost open generosity amounting tolavishness.
