Human ancestor skulls. Two skulls of human ancestors (Homo erectus) found at the Olduvai Gorge, Tanzania. The OH9 (Olduvai Hominid 9) skull is in lower frame, while the OH12 skull and fragments are in upper frame. Homo erectus lived between million and 250,000 years ago. OH9 (Chellean Man) is thought to be million years old. OH12 (Pinhead) is thought to be between 800,000 and 600,000 years old. The Olduvai Gorge region was excavated by Louis and Mary Leakey. OH9 was discovered in 1960 by Louis Leakey. OH12 was discovered two years later by Margaret Cropper.
