Having skirtedthe side of a high cliff on the one hand, and a deep declivity on the other,penetrating through rock cuttings, the train merges into the open, from whichposition, on the right hand, may be observed the immense VALLEY OF ATHOUSAND HILLS. There are few finer sights in South Africa than thisscene, with the train 2,200 feet above sea level, and the immense green roller-topped hills extending to the horizon.
