It hadits cruise at the same time as the New Yorkclub had, and it had a regatta at NewLondon, August 25, 1871. The onlyschooners it could boast were the Made-leine (the flag-ship) and Fleur de Lis, atthat time owned by Mr. John R. Dicker-son, the present owner of the Madeleine;and of its sloops were the Addie, Qui Vive,. been covered, and the other two made thecourse, but not in nine hours. Their timesare worth giving, as showing how close theDi-eadnought, on this occasion, came to theSappho. They were, Sappho, loli., 12m.,OS.; Dreadnought, loh., i8m,, 4s.; a differ-ence of 6m., 4s., in favor of the Sappho onelapsed time, and in a race of that distanceon allowance, she would have won. Kate, Kaiser Milhelm, Maggie B., Sophia,Mary, Reereation, Jennie, Twilight, WestWind, Nettie B., Ada, Nettle, Frolic, Twi-light, Carrie, Khedive, Water Lily, Ah Sin,Haidee, and Annie. Many of these wereyachts belonging to New London.
