Striking white clouds above a hill with trees against a blue sky at Lake Titicaca, Bolivia. The lake also borders Peru.

Lake Titicaca in the Andes is the largest lake in South America. As the highest lake navigable by ships, and the largest with over two thousand tonnes in weight, it measures over 250 metres at its deepest point, its shores stretching from Bolivia to Peru comprising the Altiplano basin in the Andes, the Puno region and La Paz department. It has some densely populated islands and is home to a large ecosystem. The climate is particular to the region and traditional agriculture is widely practiced. According to ancient Bolivian beliefs it is the birthplace of the sun.
