Diamond Couching.—A Flat Couching (shewn in ) worked as follows : Lay down lines of floss silk, andabove them lay lines of purse silk or gold thread singly,but in a diagonal direction, and at equal distances Fia. 164. Diamond Flat Couching. Secure each single line with a stitch brought from theback. Lay all the lines in one direction first and securethem, then lay the Lines that cross them, and wherever thetwo meet and form one of the points of a diamond, worka pearl or a spangle in at the junction. Diaper Couching is the same as Plain Couching, thesecuring stitches in it being worked so as to form zigzaglines, diamonds, and crosses. Plain Flat Couching.—Lay down floss silk evenlyover the foundation, and secure it with stitches broughtfrom the back. Take these over two threads of silk andreturn to the back again.
