Attic Black-Figure Hydria Fragment. Unknown about 530 The fragments preserve parts of a hydria’s mouth, shoulder and body. On the shoulder: a duel flanked by two warriors. This fragment gives the central part of the scene (and joins ). On the left, legs and part of the shield of a warrior. Beside him, a hoplite collapses to left, looking back (shield blazon: bull’s head). His victorious opponent advances to left (one leg, edge of shield and part of spear preserved). On the body, a quadriga turning to right, driven by a charioteer with a fillet in his hair and wearing a long white chiton. The warrior in the chariot is largely hidden, but wears a cuirass and Corinthian helmet. He holds two spears and carries a Boeotian shield on his back. Before the quadriga, an Amazon running to right (only her lower legs are preserved). Behind the chariot, another Amazon flees to left but looks back. She has an Attic helmet, cuirass, sword and round shield (blazon: balls) The main panel is surmounted by a white-ground band decorated with a key pattern to right, bordered above and below by a pair of glaze lines, and framed on the side by two rows of ivy.
