The highestpoint, 1,430 feet above the level of the sea, is called the Signal,El Hacho, and the panorama from this eagles eyrie is un-rivaled, the eye sweeping over two seas and two quarters ofthe world. The extreme end of the rock facing the sea is Europa Point, crowned by a light-house and defended bystrong batteries. The pride of Gibraltar is the Alameda, which is laid out incharming style and commands fine views of the Straits andcoast of Africa.
