Kensitas Flowers cigarette card folder containing a silk flower inside, given away in packs of cigarettes in 1933

Cigarette card folder entitled Kensitas sets of cards or inserts were given away in packets of Kensitas cigarettes and were (and are still) popular collector's items. Inside each folder was a colourful silk woven embroidery flower or plant - this one contained a silk of the Helenium. The first series of 60 flowers was included in packs in 1933 and 1934. Eventually there were 230 flower silks. The back of the insert indicates that this brand is produced from only the finest and mildest leaves of the tobacco plant and that the cigarettes taste better. Kensitas was a brand first produced by J Wix and Sons Ltd of London. Julius Wix was a Russian immigrant. The brand was sold to American Tobacco in 1927 and again to Gallaher Ltd in 1962 - a vintage 1930s item for editorial use only.
