The spot choseu for its erection isa hill immediately in the rear of the northerly part ofthe town of Plymouth, and, when thoroughly gradedaccording to the plans of the Society, will show anoctagonal plateau about four hundred feet in diametersurrounded by a level belt of grass forty feet in width,outside of which a driveway will be constructed fiftyfeet wide and about two-fifths of a mile in design of the monument, the corner-stone ofwhich was laid Aug. 2, 1859, consists of an octagongranite pedestal forty-five feet high, on which standsa statue of Faith thirty-six feet in height.
