Heath spotted orchid (Dactylorhiza maculata)
A close-up view of the individual flowers of the heath spotted orchid (Dactylorhiza maculata) which is a member of the Orchidaceae family. The orchid is found in damp meadows and acid peat soils. The flower has a broad lower lip and is not as lobed as other species, it can be difficult to identify as it readily hybridises with other orchid species, such as the common spotted orchid. Photographed in Somerset, UK, in June.
