HEN PECKING ITS LEGS (Rhode Island).—No doubt it is scaly-leg, and the irritation duo tothe parasites caused her to start pecking. Shewould be indifferent to the pain if it relieved theitching. Bathe well in water as hot as you canbear your hand in, remove any scales which willcome off without causing much bleeding. Soak theleg in carbolic oil, 1 part carbolic acid to 24 partsoil. Bind up the legs with thin strips of calico, much as a horses leg is bandaged. Leave threedays, then remove bandages, soak well in hot water, and again remove all scurf that will easily come off,and dress once more with carbolic oil. It is farbetter to soak with petroleum in the early stages, and if done three times a year the leg will keepclean in infested yards. But petroleum must notbe used after cores form.—G. A. P.
