a clear felled area of Corsican pine in a Forestry Commission plantation in Sherwood Forest, England
This is a clear-felled area in Rainworth Forest near Mansfield, part of Sherwood Forest. The trees were Corsican Pine. Corsican pine trees suffer from a disease called red band needle blight and so a different species will be replanted. These clear-fell coupes provide excellent habitat for bird species such as the nightjar. The branches, known as 'brash' will rot down in two or three years.
